Maxton Hall - My Opinions on the Two Main Characters
You're not invisible anymore. Not for me.
I've been watching romantic comedies for a long time, and this show stood out for its ability to express itself without placing the characters in humiliating circumstances. Firstly, I'd want to congratulate it, as teen shows normally make me cringe. However, this show was strangely unique and moved along extremely well.
Ruby Jemima Bell : Our Sweetheart and the "Poor"
Our main character Ruby Jemima Bell terrified me at first because of her passive and indifferent attitude, but as the play went, I was incredibly amazed by how she evolved into someone who could stand on her own and had her own thoughts. This is because, in this style of teen show, females rarely view themselves as individuals and are often content with being tossed from one situation to another.
In my perspective, the way she expresses herself and her friendships were not sufficiently represented to the viewers, whether due to the duration of the episodes or the focus being on the romance between the characters. I'd like to have had more specific insights into her psychology. Regarding the significant event she had with her father, I thought it was quite cliché and superficially handled, but it still managed to touch the hearts.
Overall, I believe she is a lovely and caring character. Her actions and encourage for attending Oxford, given her age on the show, really impressed me. Furthermore, even though it's a common trope, the fact that she didn't immediately melt at every move James took towards her and gradually discovered her affections for him made for a very natural story.
James Mortimer Beaufort : The Charming Prince
What can I say about James? He is every teen's dream. Someone with ice-cold walls who warms you up with his inner fire as you get to know him better. Perhaps he is the best male lead I've seen in a long time. He's done an excellent job. I didn't like him or his acts at first, but I grew attached to him over time, just as Ruby did. He genuinely has a deeper heart and mind than most rich and ignorant men, and this depth was beautifully shown to us through his character's steadily opening doors.
The fact that James's aggression—which is typical of male characters—was focused on his family rather than Ruby excited me more. It was obvious from the start that Ruby had an effect on him, but it was to be expected that his feelings would be confused by his bitterness toward his family, making it take some time for him to come to the sense with this.
Overall, My opinions of this character differ widely , but I completely agree with everyone when they say that he is remarkable. I can't wait to see how his character evolves in the next season.
I shared my thoughts about the characters without giving any spoilers. What are your comments? Please don't hesitate to share them!
